Jackson County, Missouri Sheriff's Office — Courthouse Security Checkpoint Guidelines
As you enter any of the Jackson County court buildings, you will be required to pass through a security checkpoint. No exceptions will be allowed. People with disabilities will need to speak to the security staff for the necessary accommodations. The buildings include:
- Kansas City Courthouse, 415 E. 12th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106
- Eastern Jackson County Courthouse, 308 W. Kansas, Independence, MO 64050
- Albert Riederer Community Justice Complex, 1315 Locust, Kansas City, MO 64106
- Family Justice Center, 625 E. 26th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106
The security checkpoint for all four buildings is similar to airport security checkpoints. You will be required to place any hand-carried items (such as purses, briefcases, packages, lunch boxes, and umbrellas) on the conveyor belt of the x-ray machine. You will also be required to remove your belt and empty your pockets of any metal items (such as cell phones, keys, pens, loose change, and wallets) into a plastic basket available at the checkpoint, and place the basket on the conveyor belt.
As you pass through the metal detector, do not touch the sides. If the metal detector beeps, you will be asked to step back and check your pockets again. In some instances, you may be requested to remove articles of clothing such as shoes, a jacket, or a coat. No weapons of any kind will be allowed in the courthouses. Please allow extra time to clear security when you visit.
