Juror FAQ
Common questions from citizens summoned for jury service in the 16th Judicial Circuit. If your question is not answered here, contact the Jury Office using the number on your official summons.
How was I selected for jury service?
Prospective jurors are selected at random from lists of Jackson County residents. Approximately 20,000 prospective jurors are summoned each year.
I received a call saying I missed jury duty and owe a fine. Is this legitimate?
No. The Court will never call you to demand payment or threaten arrest. This is a scam. The Court communicates with prospective jurors by mailed summons and, for those who opt in, by text or e-mail through the eJuror system. Do not provide payment or personal information — hang up and contact the Jury Office using the number on your official summons.
This is a bad time for me to serve. Can I get a postponement?
In many cases, jury service may be postponed to a more convenient date. Follow the instructions on your summons to request a postponement.
Does the Court pay me for jury service?
Jurors receive a statutory daily fee for their service. Missouri law also protects employees from being penalized by their employer for reporting for jury duty.
